Terms of Service
Last updated 15 August 2026
The rules of the road for using MOVO — chat and calls, communities, the wallet and MCoin, the marketplace, and the investor portal. Written in plain English, governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Acceptance
These Terms of Service are a contract between you and MOVO. By creating an account, or by using the MOVO mobile app, the movochat.com website, or any related services (together, the “Services”), you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Some parts of MOVO — the wallet and MCoin, the marketplace, and the investor programme — are covered by additional terms you will see when you turn each one on. Where an additional term conflicts with these general Terms, the more specific one wins for that feature.
Account eligibility
You need to be old enough to enter into a contract where you live and to meet the minimum age set by MOVO for the feature you want to use. The age gates are regional so we follow local law rather than a single global number.
- Chat, calls, and communities — available from 13 in most regions, and from 16 in the UK, the EEA, and other jurisdictions where local law sets a higher minimum for online services.
- Wallet, MCoin, marketplace, and any feature involving money — available only to users aged 18 or over who have completed identity verification. This is set by financial regulation, not by us.
- Investor programme — available only to users who are 18 or over, who complete KYC, and who meet the eligibility criteria set out in the separate investor documents.
- You must give us accurate information when you register and keep it up to date. You must not create an account for someone else, impersonate anyone, or use MOVO if you are on a sanctions list or banned from the Services.
Acceptable use
MOVO is used by people all over the world, in many languages, for private conversation and for commerce. We keep it useful and safe by holding everyone to a few clear rules.
- No illegal content or activity — do not post, send, host, sell, or facilitate anything that is illegal where you are or where the recipient is. This includes CSAM, non-consensual intimate imagery, weapons, controlled substances, and content that infringes intellectual property.
- No harassment, abuse, or hate — do not target another person or group with threats, doxxing, stalking, slurs, or coordinated harassment. Communities that exist to do this will be shut down.
- No fraud or market manipulation — do not run pump-and-dumps in MCoin, wash-trade, coordinate to inflate prices, publish fake reviews, or run pyramid or Ponzi schemes. Do not run scams on the marketplace or against other users.
- No spam or misuse of the platform — do not send unsolicited bulk messages, scrape data without written permission, reverse-engineer the Services, or try to break their security.
- Report problems — use the in-app report tools when you see something that breaks these rules. We review reports and take action, which may include removing content, restricting a feature, or closing an account.
User content
You keep ownership of everything you create on MOVO — your messages, photos, videos, voice notes, audio rooms, community posts, and marketplace listings. We do not claim your work.
To operate the product, we need a licence to move your content around. When you publish or send content through MOVO, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit, translate, resize, display, and distribute it strictly as needed to deliver the Services to you and the audience you chose. The licence ends when you delete the content, subject to the retention rules in our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for the content you put on MOVO. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to use, and do not use MOVO to distribute content that breaks the Acceptable Use rules.
Payments and wallet
The MOVO wallet lets you hold a balance in MCoin, send and receive value inside MOVO, top up from a debit or credit card, deposit from a bank, deposit supported crypto, and withdraw back to bank or to a supported crypto address. All of this runs on top of regulated payment partners.
- MCoin is a stable in-app unit pegged 1:1 to GBP. One MCoin represents one pound sterling of value held on your behalf. The peg is maintained by MOVO through the reserve arrangements described in the wallet terms and can be reviewed and changed on notice if the reserve mechanics change.
- KYC is required for withdrawals — you can receive and hold MCoin with basic verification, but converting MCoin back to GBP or to crypto and moving it out of MOVO requires you to complete identity verification. Higher limits require enhanced verification.
- Refunds — peer-to-peer transfers are final once confirmed; verify the recipient before you send. Card and bank top-ups can be reversed by MOVO if the funding source is later charged back or reversed. Marketplace refunds follow the marketplace dispute process. Where applicable consumer law gives you a stronger right (for example under UK consumer protection law), that right applies on top of these terms.
- Fees, limits, and exchange rates for top-ups, withdrawals, and crypto conversions are shown before you confirm a transaction. They can change; we tell you before a change takes effect.
- We may hold, freeze, delay, or reverse a transaction, and we may suspend an account, where we reasonably suspect fraud, money laundering, sanctions breach, or terms breach, or where a regulator or court requires it.
Marketplace terms
The MOVO marketplace lets users and businesses list items and services and transact with each other. MOVO provides the platform, the listing tools, and (where enabled) escrow. MOVO is not the seller, is not a party to any sale, and does not warrant the items or services offered.
- Seller obligations — list only items and services you have the right to sell, describe them accurately (condition, specification, photos), price them clearly, disclose applicable taxes, ship or deliver on time, and handle returns in line with local consumer law.
- Buyer obligations — read the listing, ask before you buy if anything is unclear, pay through the MOVO wallet (paying outside the platform is not covered by our protection), and confirm delivery once you have received what you ordered.
- Escrow — for eligible transactions, buyer funds are held in escrow. Escrow releases to the seller when the buyer confirms delivery, when the platform confirms delivery automatically after a set window, or when a dispute is resolved in the seller’s favour.
- Dispute process — if something goes wrong, open a dispute in the order screen within the window shown there. The buyer and seller exchange evidence in a dispute thread; MOVO reviews it and issues a decision, which may be a full refund, a partial refund, or a release to the seller. Our decision on a marketplace dispute is final for the purposes of the escrow release, without prejudice to your legal rights.
- Prohibited listings — anything that is illegal in either the seller’s or the buyer’s jurisdiction, plus categories set out in the marketplace rules (for example weapons, regulated financial products, live animals, and adult content).
Investor programme
The MOVO investor programme is offered through the investor portal to eligible users. Participation in the investor programme is governed by separate agreements — including the subscription agreement, the shareholders’ agreement (where relevant), and the associated risk disclosures — which you accept when you invest.
These general Terms cover your use of the investor portal itself (logging in, submitting documents, viewing your holdings, receiving updates). They do not create, describe, or vary any investment right — the separate investor agreements do that. If anything in these Terms conflicts with the investor agreements for investor-specific matters, the investor agreements win.
Nothing on the MOVO website or in the app is investment advice or a solicitation to invest. Investing carries risk, including the risk of losing the money you put in. Only take part if you have read the investor documents and understand the risks.
Prohibited conduct
On top of the Acceptable Use rules above, the following are specifically prohibited and are grounds for immediate action against your account:
- Creating multiple accounts to evade limits, bans, or KYC controls, or to inflate participation in communities, votes, or marketplace ratings.
- Using MOVO to launder money, evade sanctions, finance terrorism, or move the proceeds of crime.
- Manipulating MCoin markets, price feeds, or marketplace rankings, or coordinating to do so with other users.
- Probing, scanning, or testing the Services’ security without written authorisation, or exploiting a vulnerability instead of reporting it to security@movochat.com.
- Building competing services on top of scraped MOVO data, or repackaging the Services through unofficial clients, mirrors, or bots.
Termination
You can leave at any time. Delete your account from Settings → Account. A 7-day grace period runs from your request; during that window you can cancel and keep your account. After the grace period we delete or de-identify your account, subject to the retention rules in the Privacy Policy for financial and KYC records.
We can suspend or terminate your account, remove content, freeze funds, or refuse to process transactions if you break these Terms, if we reasonably believe you are putting other users or the platform at risk, or if a law or a regulator requires us to. Where the reason is not obvious and it is safe and lawful to say, we will tell you why.
Your wallet balance remains yours after termination. We will help you withdraw the balance to a bank or wallet you control, subject to KYC and to any freeze or hold required by law.
Warranties disclaimer
MOVO is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade.
We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every attack, or that any translation, price, or third-party integration will always be accurate. We do not warrant the conduct of other users or the items and services they offer on the marketplace.
Nothing in this section limits any warranty or right that cannot be excluded under the law that applies to you — for example, the statutory rights of consumers under UK consumer law.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MOVO and its officers, employees, and partners are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with the Services.
Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with the Services in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid MOVO in that period and (b) one hundred pounds sterling (GBP 100).
Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for any other liability that UK or EU law does not allow to be excluded.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter (including non-contractual disputes or claims), are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
You and MOVO agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim. If you are a consumer resident in another part of the United Kingdom, or in the European Union, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections and the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and MOVO may only bring proceedings against you in those courts.
Changes to these Terms
We update these Terms when the product or the law changes. When we make a material change, we revise the “Last updated” date at the top and, where the change materially affects you, we notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect so you have time to review it.
If you keep using MOVO after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept a change, you can stop using MOVO and delete your account.
